About Us

A railroad switch is a mechanism that enables railway trains to be guided from one track to another. For many who are enslaved in the world of human trafficking, the thought of getting their lives “back on track” is a fading dream. As with the slaves of old who had little knowledge of life off of the plantation, they relied on a network of complete strangers who would lead them to freedom. Victims to survivors s to modern-day slavery through human trafficking also need the help of fearless and compassionate abolitionists.

Founded by human trafficking survivor, Dr. Marlene Carson, The SWITCH National Anti-Trafficking Network was created to be a mechanism that empowers a new generation of underground railroad conductors. Together, we can become the solution to one of the greatest human rights challenges of our day, and set the victims on a new path to freedom, hope and restoration.

What We Do

Housing and Rehabilitative Services

In 2008, there were only 88 known beds for survivors of Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking. Today, in 2016, although there has been a significant increase in bed numbers, the need is greater as more cases are coming to light and there is more exposure and coverage in the fastest-rising criminal enterprise in modern day.

“Nothing Into Something” Real Estate Development Corporation (NISRE Development) has teamed up with domestic and international organizations to develop shipping container communities that result in urban housing for less than half of the price of traditional residential units with similar square footage. The unique design of the container retains the integrity of a fully prefabricated shipping container during transport, allowing for the conversion to a fully functional Cargominium™ within 3 months. This system allows a fully sustainable residence to be constructed at even the most remote sites in 1/15 the time and at 60% less the cost of traditional building processes.

Ongoing feasibility and research studies are being developed to tap into the true potential of shipping container models and communities to be used for commercial and residential real estate.

We are excited to partner with them to employ this innovation to help survivors.

Awareness

Education ends ignorance. In human trafficking, however, bringing awareness to the issue without a plan to execute change creates a burden without a solution. The SWITCH Awareness model includes tools and resources needed to holistically deal with prevention and intervention; ultimately ending the demand.

There are many components that come together to identify, groom and capture prey from a trafficker’s perspective. Teaching these components to law enforcement, educators, medical personnel, religious organizations and individuals by way of interviews, seminars, video productions, community events, town hall meetings, and all manner of public exposure; results in a direct call to action to those who are willing to make a change. We partner with all willing to end this societal scourge.

Sur-Thrivers Coalition SWITCH

Our model at it’s core is about ‘Sur-Thriver’ collaboration and leadership. Bringing local and national leadership together to be the voice of the ‘voiceless,’ on the frontlines; Which is inclusive of not only the obvious and recent victims but the victims’ advocates (Sur-thrivers). Because, unfortunately, injustice doesn’t stop once you are out of the life of exploitation. ‘Sur-thrivers’ all over the U.S. are facing injustice on another level as they fight for the plight of the victim. While the coalition is ‘sur-thriver’ lead, count amid our numbers: law enforcement; attorneys; educators and a plethora of other professions share the passion to end modern day slavery.

Prevention Programming for Youth & Young Adults

The PeerPositive program is the perfect “youth to youth” supplemental solution to reinforce any organization’s current “adult to youth” positive youth development efforts. As a part of the program, students receive interactive and culturally relevant instruction on leadership, presentation development, healthy relationships, conflict resolution, and effective communication skills; while learning to avoid risky behaviors such as violence, substance abuse and premarital sexual activity.

In addition to their own personal growth, participants will be trained on how to use PeerPositiveSystem.com to effectively engage, equip and empower their peers by hosting presentations throughout their communities as certified PeerPositive Instructors.
Enforcement
Consequently, law enforcement training will be an integral element of The SWITCH. Switching the perception that these women and girls choose this life and are not victims is crucial when it comes to treating victims with dignity and respect. To this end‘, ‘Sur-Thrivers’ of human trafficking have overcome and now are Judges, attorneys, law enforcement, chemist and productive members of society.
